Asking people if I can take their photos is sometimes easy - and often not. Our local beach is famous, but not for all the right reasons. It is home to a group known as the Bra Boys. Some of them were at the beach today - identifiable by their tattoos. I longed to be brave enough to ask if I could take some photos - but I was overwhelmed by timidity and decided to wait for another, braver, day.
These three men caught my attention instead.
The fellow in the teeshirt on the right clearly is made of sterner stuff than me. He unashamedly pointed his video camera at a group of the boys, filmed briefly, and then strolled on.
My problem is that I do not simply want to photograph them.
I want to know their stories.
One day I will.
Oh Mary do! Go ask, everyone wants to tell their story.

If they are going to talk to and be photographed by anyone, Mary...it is you. You have a knack for making your subjects feel comfortable and encouraging them to tell their stories. It shows in your photographs. Go! Be brave!
